VALENTINE BORDET
Project type
Performer and Activist
Date
2023
Location
London
Valentine is a performer and an activist. Through her artistic process, she experiments with queerness and marginalized topics, challenges societal norms, and makes visible the stories that have long been repressed, oppressed, and shamed. Through her art, she seeks to blur the lines between the politically correct and the unacceptable, rewrite outdated narratives, imagine new possibilities, and dream of a better, more inclusive world.
In her quest to create untamed, unbounded, and edgy works, she holds a genuine concern for the people who will experience her performances, and the personal and collective impacts created. She cares about facilitating an intimate connection with the audience, holding space for new and, at times, uncomfortable emotions.
She uses her somatic training background as the foundation for her choreographic research. This approach connects her movements with the natural rhythms of the world, her body, and the human experience. It is a means of creating authentic, genuine movements that resonate with the deepest core of her being, allowing for space for pleasure, joy, and playfulness, feelings that have often been stifled or suppressed by societal norms.
Pleasure is both empowering and deeply vulnerable. We all hold internalized narratives around when and how we deserve to feel pleasure - be it from the systems of oppression, from our families or educational environments. Her creative journey starts from a place of vulnerability, authenticity, and personal truth. She uses movement, alongside other art forms, to give voice to the stories that have long remained concealed within her.
